What to Expect in a Permanent Makeup Consultation?
The prospect of undergoing the procedure required to apply permanent makeup can be daunting to the first timer, to say the least. It’s natural to have anxiety or concern about the potential for pain or discomfort, your healed results, the practitioner’s limitations, and more. We’ve heard it all and we’re here to address these pre-procedure worries one by one.
Considering permanent makeup as a first timer can be – we’re not gonna lie – a little scary. After all, it is a permanent tattoo applied on your face, so worries about pain are very much valid. Not only that, if you are unsatisfied with your procedure, you have to live with it for a long time or have another painful removal performed, only to land you back to step one.
As understandable as they are, worries like these are generally unfounded and can be soothed with the right information provided during a professional consultation with a certified permanent makeup artist you trust. In permanent makeup, nothing is left to chance, and we operate a strict consultation and standard protocols during the procedure to ensure your end result is exactly what you want. To put your mind at rest, as much as possible, we lay out how we do what we do, and how we do it so well, every time.
Before your Permanent Makeup Consultation
Before we even consider undertaking any permanent makeup treatment on you, we’ll need to know a little more about you. There are certain medical conditions we’ll need to know about, which is usually discovered in a set of questions we ask you.
We’ll need to know about:
- Heart conditions
- Blood diseases
- Diabetes
- Allergies to latex, metals and other substances
- Skin conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis and other issues
- Hemophilia and other circulatory disorders
- Any medications or treatments you’re currently receiving
- If you’re pregnant or nursing a baby
All these questions may seem like a lot but they are designed to make sure permanent makeup is a safe and suitable treatment for you. If you do suffer with any of these issues, it doesn’t necessarily mean we will not treat you, only that we will need to discuss what is possible in more depth to provide a better service for your unique conditions.
At your consultation
The first thing we do is assess your skin undertones, to ensure we match the right pigment to your skin type. Most people have either warm or cool undertones, which lends them to looking best in red or blue based colors. We look carefully and match your coloring to our pigments, often customizing your pigment just for you.
Next we will discuss the treatment you want. Whether it’s lip blushing, microblading, or permanent eyeliner you’re after, there are a variety of shapes, thicknesses and colors to decide upon. It would be good if you’ve had a good think about this before your appointment, so we can narrow down your options at an early stage, although we can also provide advice on what is best going to suit your facial shape.
Once we’ve got a good idea of your ideal style, we will map your face using a specialized PMU pencil so you can see the shape and how it looks on your face. We will also take pictures, so you can evaluate how you’re going to look against how your face looks at the present time. Once you’re happy with the planned shape, color and density, we’ll move on to prepping your procedure areas with numbing cream so we can comfortably begin your treatment.
If you would like to move forward with treatment, you can book a consultation with us when you’re ready to do so.
