What is SMP?
Scalp Micropigmentation is a procedure that minimizes the appearance of baldness or thinning by embedding cosmetic pigment into your scalp to restore the look of thicker hair without surgery.
The pigment is color matched to patient hair and skin color, and a shadow is created using a pointillism technique that resembles hair follicles. Because of this, the patient can cut their hair down to stubble and these dots will retain the look of short hairs.
The look of short stubble hairs is achieved with a specially designed instrument, similar to a tattoo machine. The tip of this instrument is thinner than the width of a hair. Because of this, it is virtually impossible to determine the difference between a real hair and virtual hair. Under close examination, the tattooed hair simply looks like an additional hair follicle.
